چکیده

We spontaneously tend to project animacy and sensitivity inanimate objects sometimes we attribute distinctively human features like intelligence, goals, reasons certain artificial devices. This phenomenon is called “anthropomorphism” has been long studied by researchers in human-robot interaction social-robotics. These studies are particularly important from the perspective of recent developments military technology, as autonomous systems controlled AI expected play a greater role future warfare. Anthropomorphistic effects can critical tactical operations involving hybrid teams, where service members agents need quickly coordinate relying almost exclusively on fast, cognitively parsimonious, natural forms communication. rely importantly anthropomorphism allow soldiers read behavior machines terms goals intentions. Understanding cognitive mechanisms that underpin anthropomorphistic attributions hence potentially crucial increase accuracy efficacy human-machine operations. However, this question largely philosophical, numerous models compete space social cognition theory explain reading mental states attribution. paper aims offer an initial exploration these philosophical psychology philosophy, reviewing theories most promising predict how it enable improve communication between technologies.

Cooperation in Human-Robot-Teams

In this paper, the concept of human-robot-team is presented. Because of its high flexibility and adaptability, the human-robot cooperation is expected to have a wide range of applications in uncertain environments, not only in future construction and manufacturing industries but also in service branches. A multi-agent control architecture gives an appropriate frame for the flexibility of the hu...

Collaboration in Human-Robot Teams

Many new applications for robots require them to work alongside people as capable members of human-robot teams. These include—in the long term—robots for homes, hospitals, and offices, but already exist in more advanced settings, such as space exploration. The work reported in this paper is part of an ongoing collaboration with NASA JSC to develop Robonaut, a humanoid robot envisioned to work w...

Teams for Teams Performance in Multi-Human/Multi-Robot Teams

The present study addresses the interaction between automation and organization of human teams in controlling large robot teams performing an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) task. We identify three subtasks: perceptual visual search for victims, assistance teleoperation to assist robot, and navigation path planning and coordination. For the studies reported, navigation was selected for automatio...

Intelligent Software Agents for Military Operations Planning

Planning military operations is arguably the most complex and critical activity undertaken by any modern organisation. Equipment and supplies are expensive, errors can be deadly and affect the sovereignty of nations, operational tempo is high and small details can sometimes make all the difference. This paper describes an R&D program being undertaken by Command and Control Division (C2D) of DST...

Tactical Operations of Multi-Robot Teams in Urban Warfare

With scaling of multi-robot teams deployed in military operations, there is a need to boost autonomy of individual, as well team behaviors. We developed a feature-rich simulation testbed for experimental evaluation of multi-agent coordination mechanisms applicable in tactical military operations in urban warfare. In particular, we investigated four approaches including multi-agent mission plann...
